Obituary for Leon D. "Sonny" Franklin

Leon D. “Sonny” Franklin, 78, a resident of Clinton, LA, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at his home. He was retired, after working for over 50 years in the East Feliciana and East Baton Rouge School Systems. He served as a teacher, coach, Principal, Vice Principal, Administrator, and School Board member. He was born in Jacksonville, FL. Visitation will be at the Clinton United Methodist Church on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 5pm until 8pm and then on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 10am until funeral services at 11am. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Ted Fine. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Norma Faulkner Franklin; daughter Abigail L. Franklin and husband Dustin Ponscheck of Nashville, TN; sister Yvonne Roberson and husband J.C. Vidalia, LA; brother George Franklin and wife Deborah of Denham Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Vera Franklin. Sonny was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was proud to have served as a member of the US National Guard. He received his Masters in Education from Southeastern Louisiana University and attended and played football at Delta State. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 10528 Kentshire Ct, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.
