Phoebe Volentine Thompson, a resident of Clinton, LA, died on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Lane Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Memphis, TN. She was retired, after working for 37 years for the state of Louisiana. There will be a visitation at the Clinton United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 6pm until 8pm and then on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 10am until funeral services at 11am, conducted by Rev. Ted Fine. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. V. Elaine Thompson of Ruston, LA; her son, P. Worth Thompson of Zachary, LA; one sister, Joan Kelly of Allen, TX; and two grandchildren, Emma Thompson and Alexander Thompson. She is also survived by Japanese exchange student and “daughter” Dr. Noriko Sakusabe. She was preceded in death by her husband Rupert Thompson; parents Rudy and Ila Heil Volentine; brother Capt. Philip Volentine; and special friend Al Ducote. Pallbearers will be David Broussard, Herbert Erwin, Kurt Ducote, George Thompson, Michael Kelly, and Selwyn Blouin. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Kotas, David Brand, Dale Ducote, Dr. John Piker, Michaela Wells, and Lynn Zeringue. She was a 1957 graduate of Byrd High School in Shreveport, LA; a 1961 graduate of Centenary College of Louisiana, BA; CSW and MSW, LSU, 1967 and 1974. She was active in the Clinton United Methodist Church and UMW; Friends of the Clinton Library; and co-founder and charter member of Friends of Old Centenary.
