The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Jerry Boudreaux can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Iceland Radar Site in 1959

I was assigned to a very remote radar station on a mountain in extreme Northeast Iceland in 1959.  Jerry Boudreaux arrived about 3 months after I did.  He was a memorable person who had a tremendous sense of humor.  His main additional duties (besides his primary duty of Aircraft Controller) were as the BOQ officer and Officers' Club chief.  He was universally well liked by both officer and enlisted personnel.  Shortly after I left the site in September 1959, he and a few others converted an abandoned construction building and turned it into a Christian Chapel for use by all site personnel.  Several high ranking folks flew to the remote site to dedicate that structure in late 1959.  Jerry was a leadership by example sort of fellow and it was my pleasure to serve along side of him.  In 2002, he and Cherry visited Iceland, rented an SUV, and drove all the way -- mostly on gravel roads -- several hundred miles to the now abandoned and razed radar site.  He made contact with a few Icelanders who resided in the nearest tiny fishing village. They remembered Jerry and drove him up to the site where Jerry stood on the part of the slab where his BOQ room used to stand (ironically, it was the room I had occupied up to the time I departed.)

It is with sorrow that I learned of Jerry's death.  In 2004, he stopped by my house in Montgomery when he was on his way to an Auburn/LSU game.  We were able to reminisce about our days at the H-2 radar site named Langanes Air Force Station.

May the Lord Bless and Keep all those who knew and miss him.
