Jerry Joseph Boudreaux was born in Grand Point, Louisiana on July 23, 1933. He died on November 6, 2014. He was a 1952 graduate of Baker High School. He received his BS in Education from SLI (Now ULL) in 1956. He received his Masters in Education from LSU in 1963 and his Masters Plus 30 from LSU in 1967. While at SLI, he was a four-year letterman in football, he served as the President of the “S” Club, and he served as a Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force ROTC. He served in the US Air Force from August 1957 until May 1960. He received an honorable discharge as a 1st Lieutenant. In 1956 he worked as a teacher and coach at Leon Goudchaux High School in Reserve, LA. From 1960-1967 he was a teacher and coach at Baker High School in Baker, LA. From 1967 to 1970 he served as the Assistant Principal of Baker Junior High School. He was the Principal at Zachary High School from 1970 until he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Zachary Rotary club from 1975 until 2003. He was the President of the Zachary Rotary Club from 1981 until 1982. In 1988, he was selected as the Zachary Citizen of the Year. He was selected as the East Baton Rouge Parish High School Principal of the Year in 1988 and was a Regional Winner and State Finalist. In 1991, he was inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Baker High Hall of Fame. He served on the LSHAA Executive Committee for ten years. He served on the LHSAA/LHSCA Hall of Fame Committee for 20 years. He was a charter member of the Baker Jaycees from 1960 until 1966. He served three terms as the President of the Louisiana Association of Principals. He was the President of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Council from 1981 until 1983 and then from 2000 until the present, where he also served on the Finance Committee. He served as the Chairperson of the LHSAA School Visitation Program from 1995 until 2010. He was the Chairperson for the LHSAA/LHSCA Hall of Fame Basketball Classic for 26 years. He was the Chairperson on SACS Evaluation Committees for Louisiana Middle and High Schools from 1975 until 2010. For two years, he worked as co-chairperson in the formation of the Zachary Community School System. He served for six months as the Superintendent of the Zachary Community School System. He was a member of the Lane Memorial Hospital Board of Commissioners from 1997 until 2007, serving as chairman for five years. He was presently serving on the ULL Ragin Cajun Athletic Lettermen Club Board. He was the Vice-President of the Baton Rouge Area Retired Teachers Association from 2004 until 2005 and was the President from 2006 until 2008. He served as President of the Louisiana Association of Educators from 1978 until 1979. He was a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals for 25 years. He served as a consultant to several school systems in Louisiana. He served as President of the District IV LETA from 2010 until 2012. Mr. Boudreaux was a well-loved and well respected member of the Zachary Community. His generosity and positive spirit changed many, many lives. He leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship with people from all walks of life.

He is survived by his children: Pookie Boudreaux and husband, Bill Screws; Brent Boudreaux and wife, Cheryl; Beetle Fisher and husband, Vic; Robyn Amrhein and husband, David; and Boosey Boudreaux and wife, Kelly. His 10 grandchildren, Christy and husband, Ron, Brad, Jessica, Brian and wife, Julie, Jeannie and husband, Mark, Dustin and wife, Laura Kate, Blake, Zachary, Alex and Emily. 12 great grandchildren, Anna Kate, Allie Grace, Andie Lynne, Taylor, Brooke, Collin, Madlyn, Dylan, Caden, Lalia, Chase, and Jackson. Brother Calvin Boudreaux and his wife Ann; sister Clara Mae Daigle; and sister-in-law Ruth Boudreaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Iola Boudreaux; his wife of 58 years, Cherry Boudreaux; his brother, Irving Boudreaux; his brother-in-law Manuel Daigle; and in-laws Marie and Elra Brady. Pallbearers will be Doug Hall, Brent Fuselier, Tom Henry, Howard Martin, Jr., Terry Coates, Charles Monteilh, John Phares, and John Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be: all retired principals and teachers; and Coach Gay Keller, Louis Roth, Jerry Owens, Jerry Epperson, Billy Honeycutt, Joe Calloway, Buddy Mouton, Steve Stephens, Jesse Spears, R. E. Amrhein, Dr. Howard Martin, and Bob Odom (deceased).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jerry Boudreaux Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Bank of Zachary.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Zachary High School gym from 1pm until 6pm. On Monday, November 10, 2014, visitation will continue at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary from 8:30am until 10:30am funeral Mass, conducted by M. Jeffery Bayhi. Eulogies will begin at 9:45am. Burial will follow at Azalea Rest Cemetery.
