Obituary for Dan W "Uncle Dan" Bush

Bush, Dan "Uncle Dan" Wilbert was called home by his Lord and Savior on February 8, 2017, one day before his 76th birthday. Dan was born on February 9, 1941 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a life long resident of Slaughter, Louisiana. Dan attended Clinton High School. In 1959, Dan enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany where he met the love of his life and current wife of 55 years, Jutta Vill Bush. They were married in Denmark on May 1, 1962 then returned to the United States where they legally remarried on April 22, 1963. They had two children together while Dan started his career as a apprentice in the motorized department at Exxon Chemical Plant. He retired with 30 years of service as a Lift specialist over all Exxon plants in Baton Rouge in 1996. Dan joined the Masonic brotherhood and was a 30 year member of the Plains Lodge in Zachary, Louisiana where he was elected Worshipful Master for one year and later became a charter member of the Slaughter Lodge where he served as Worshipful Master in 2015. After retiring from Exxon, Dan became a commissioned deputy in East Feliciana Parish and in the town of Slaughter. He served 15 years as a volunteer deputy because he wanted to give his time and service to his lifelong community. His commitment of the Slaughter Police Department and serving the public proved to be his true passion in life. Dan was a member of the Slaughter United Methodist Church.
Unconditional in his love, Dan Bush was a man of integrity, who gave his all in everything he did. He was wise and honest with a strong devotion to the principles of hard work and family. A wonderful, adored and respected husband, daddy and paw, Dan loved his family dearly and wanted only the best for them. He is survived by his wife Jutta Vill Bush, a son, Michael Dean Bush, a daughter in law, Michelle Barousse Bush, a daughter, Heidi Bush McCauley, 4 granddaughters, Chelsea Marie McCauley, Megan Elyse Bush, Ashley Michelle McCauley, Mallory Laine Bush, and one grandson, Ethan Michael Bush, a sister, Gloria Bush Kelly, 3 nieces, Karen Kelly Herring, Beth Kelly Nelson and Jennifer Kelly Comeaux and numerous great nieces and great nephews as well as great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Luther Bush, mother, Marine Langlois Douglass, step father, Archie Dean "Jack" Douglass and his niece, Glenda Kelly Knight.
Pallbearers will be Melton Herring, Gerald Schober, Todd Bourgeois, Dwayne Wheeler, Walter Smith and Robert Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are Gloria Bush Kelly, J.D. Gardner, Dennis White, Bobby Darbonne, Kirk Comeaux and the Slaughter Police Department.
Special thanks to Lane Regional Hospital, ICU nurses, Melodie Rider, Ellen Travis and house supervisor, Jason Landry. Also to our favorite ER nurse Tom "Bob" Gagneaux. Special thanks to Flora Lee McIntyre, Todd Bourgeois and to all of our friends and family that gave us the love and support we needed to get through this difficult time.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary. Visitation from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Slaughter. A Masonic service will be held at the church at 10:30 am and the religious service will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Redwood Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Redwood Cemetery or a favorite charity.
