Billy D. Shoemake, 71, a resident of Tunica, LA, died on Saturday, April 5, 2014. He was retired, after working for Tembec for many years as a millwright. He also served 32 years as the District 4 Police Jury member for West Feliciana Parish, where he was instrumental in the development of the West Feliciana Sports Park, the livestock facility and the animal shelter, among many other accomplishments. He was a native of Robbstown, TX, and lived many years in George West, TX.
Visitation will be at the Tunica Methodist Church in Tunica, LA on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 10am until funeral services at 12noon, conducted by Rev. Mike Clark. Burial will be in the Wimbish Rogillio Cemetery.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Anne Wilkinson Shoemake; three sons, Mark Weaver Shoemake of Victoria, TX; Kevin Lee Shoemake and his wife Patty of Victoria, TX; and William Garrett Shoemake of Tunica, LA; grandchildren Chloe Shoemake, Chad Shoemake, Kinsey Shoemake, Kalie Shoemake, Katanna Shoemake, Sarah Wilkinson Shoemake, and Olivia Catherine Shoemake; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Guy Shoemake and Frances Weaver Shoemake.
Pallbearers will be Sean Ritchie, Tommy Tynes, Ambrose Sims, Robert Bordelon, David Cornette, Wesley Jones, Adam Christian Cornette, and David Ashton Cornette. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hashhagen, Bobby Jackson, Walter Rodriguez, Dr. Jennings Owens, Clay Hardouin, Robert C. Daniel, Ernest Wilkinson, Joe Lee Norwood, Kevin Cornette and Herman Straughter.
He was a longtime member of the Tunica United Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the West Feliciana Historical Society and the Revelliers Social Club. He enjoyed fishing at his camp at Grand Isle and tending to his many cats, dogs, and horses. He was a devoted animal lover.
