Obituary for Carla Elaine Hughes

Carla "Elaine" Hughes went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 26, 2023 at her home in Zachary, La after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 64 years old. Elaine was born on July 10, 1958 in Leland, Mississippi to Johnny and Syble Richardson. She was married to the love of her life, Martin Hughes for 46 years and raised 4 children, and a handful of bonus children. She spent her entire life serving her family and the community. Her passion was spreading God's Love and cooking endless amounts of food to share with anyone she could. Elaine is survived by her husband of 46 years, Martin Hughes, four amazing children, Martin Hughes Jr, wife Alyson of Zachary; Brandy Westmoreland, husband Dustin of Zachary; Travis Hughes, wife Renee of Slaughter; Christopher Hughes, wife Jana of Madisonville. Nine grandchildren, Abigail (Taft), Allie, Reese, Callie, Joshua, Chloe, Luke, George and Maggie. Mother, Syble Holder; Three sisters, Dianne Duplechin, husband Buck; Judy Brown, husband Bobby; Pamela Richardson Bolke and a numerous amount of nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family. Elaine is preceded in death by her dad, Johnny Richardson, step dad, J C Baker and in-laws Pete and Mike Hughes. Visitation will be at Galilee Baptist Church in Zachary on Monday, May 29, 2023 from 5pm until 8pm and continued on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 9am until religious services at 10am. Graveside at Greenoaks Memorial Park immediately following services. Pallbearers will be Marty Hughes Jr, Travis Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Dustin Westmoreland, Reese Hughes, Tyler Hughes and Taft Kirby. Honorary Pallbearers will be Colby Simmons and Junior Seal. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Special thanks to her niece, Tanyl Curry for the care and love shown during her yearlong battle with Cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for you to be humble and kind, forgive one another, provide a meal to a friend, pray for someone, and most of all share God's love with everyone you can.
