Obituary for Tena Lillian Mills (Jenkins)

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with
the glory that is going to be revealed to us.” Romans 8:18

A devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and child of GOD. She was a secretary for First Baptist Church of Jackson, Louisiana for 23 years before retiring as a Health Information Clerk at East Louisiana State Hospital. She was a resident and native of Jackson. She entered GOD’s kingdom on May 13, 2023, at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 77. Visitation at First Baptist Church of Jackson, Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 9 a.m. until services at 12 noon, conducted by Dr. Joe B. Nesom. Interment at Second Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy 10, Jackson, Louisiana. She is survived by three sons and a daughter, along with their spouses: Robert & Donna Mills; Keith & Deanne Mills; Scott Mills; and Tanya & Tommy LaPorte; six grandchildren, Lauren Myer, Grady Mills, Mallory Mills, Parker Mills, Lillian LaPorte, and Maggie Mills; one great-grandchild, Dominick Myer. She is survived by one brother and sister; Wayne Jenkins and Sylvia J. Harrell; sister-in-law, Mary M. Jenkins. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, classmates, and friends. Preceded in death by her loving husband, William Cecil “Turtle” Mills; her father, James Wilford Jenkins; mother, Maggie Lillian Thomas Jenkins; brothers, Otis Jenkins, Terry Jenkins, Reggie “Pete” Jenkins, and sister Geraldine Westbrook. Pallbearers will be Robert Mills, Keith Mills, Scott Mills, Grady Mills, Parker Mills, and Tommy LaPorte. Honorary Pallbearers are all of her many loving nephews. She was a graduate of Jackson High School and a devoted long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. She served as a Sunday School teacher and cooked for the church’s Bereavement Committee and any church function. She helped anyone when she saw a need as Christ commanded. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially cooking large meals and baking. Often, she spent time browsing and collecting recipes. She enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds, planting and watching flowers grow, and snuggling with her little chihuahua, Bella. She liked to sew and participated in the Second Baptist Sewing Ladies’ gatherings with her sister and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Jackson Building Fund, or to Cancer Services of Baton Rouge.
