Obituary for Douglas Dolph McKowen

Douglas Dolph McKowen “Pop”, 68, born July 31, 1954, lived in Zachary, LA, and passed away on March 23, 2023, with his family by his side. Doug was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend; who lived to hunt and loved to plant his vegetable garden each year. Doug is survived by his wife Betty Allen McKowen of 43 years, their children: Douglas McKowen Jr. and wife Amy, T’niel and husband Ben Mercer, Kevin Scott and wife Shelley; five grandchildren: Parker, McKayla, Owen, Caitlyn, and Sean. Also survived by his brother Greg and wife Georgie, M. Kim, and Lorie. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Dolph and Lorene McKowen. Doug graduated from Silliman High School in 1972 and went on to college at Louisiana Tech University where he majored in Animal Science and graduated in 1976. He was a devoted family man, Christian, and provider. Pop will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Special thank you to the SICU at Our Lady of the Lake ICU and to his childhood friend Hewitt Townsend. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26. There will be a small family gathering in his memory at a later date.
