Obituary for Marguerite McBride "Margo" Richey (Appleton)

Marguerite “Margo” Richey was born on January 13, 1945, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was raised in
neighboring Zachary with her four siblings and many horses.
She graduated Salutatorian of the Zachary High School Class of 1963. She attended Louisiana State
University and continued her education at the LSU School of Nursing at Charity Hospital in New Orleans,
where she earned a Batchelor of Science in Nursing.
Her greatest loves in life were her family, all things horses, and of course, LSU sports. She celebrated
her 75 th birthday in memorable fashion as Joe Burrow and the Tigers won the NCAA National Football
Championship with a perfect season on that day.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Irma Appleton, grandson Matthew Richey
and brother Isaac Appleton.
She is survived by her four children: Dr. Wes Richey and wife Lisa; Dr. Laura Richey Parnell and husband
Eric; Verne Richey; and Johnnie Ruth Richey Arredondo and husband Roberto. She is also survived by
three sisters: Ruth DeGrado, Mary Ludie Baker and Betty Lou McLellan, as well as six grandchildren:
Hayes, John and Katherine Richey; Kevin and Emily Parnell and Noel Arredondo.
Honoring her as pallbearers are William and John Paul Richey, Eric and Kevin Parnell, Laurence “Larry”
Carter and Rene “Ney” Caballero. Hayes Richey, John M. Richey, Noel Arredondo and Steven Ratcliff will
serve as honorary pallbearers.
All services will be held in Zachary, Louisiana, with recitation of the Rosary at 4:30 pm and visitation at Charlet Funeral Home on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, with visitation at 1:30 p.m. and Mass at 3 p.m., with Father Jeff Bayhi officiating. Interment at Shaw-McHugh Cemetery will follow Mass, under the direction of
Charlet Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Children’s Hospital New Orleans, 200 Henry Clay
Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70118.
