Obituary for William G. "Bill" Strickland

William G. “Bill” Strickland, 73, a native of Baton Rouge, LA and a resident of Tishomingo, MS, died at his home on Thursday, October 27, 2022. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. Memorial Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022 from 10am until service at 12pm. Burial will be at Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Strickland; children, Melissa Menard (Brian), Eric Strickland (Holly), and Ryan Halbert (Jessica); sister, Kay Schroedl (Greg); five grandchildren, William Jensen, Madison Menard, Keely Ana Strickland, Kylah Strickland, and Hadleigh Halbert; mother-in-law, Gene J. Spear; daughter-in-law, Judy Strickland; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Strickland; parents, William and Van Ott Strickland; father-in-law, John H. Mathis, Sr.; and step-father-in-law, Lewis Spear. Bill, a graduate of Broadmoor High School, was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor after proudly serving his country in the Vietnam War. Following the war, Bill pursued a career in law enforcement with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. A retired captain with 35 years of service, Bill, along with his wife, relocated to Tishomingo to enjoy a slower-paced life. He was an avid deer hunter who loved spending his days on his John Deere tractor, working on his farm, and tending to his animals. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
