Obituary for Arthur Wilmot "Artie" Zimmerman

Arthur Wilmot Zimmerman, “Artie”, 60, a resident of Zachary, LA, died on September 3, 2022. He was an employee of Dow Chemical for over 35 years. There will be a visitation at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 3:00 pm until memorial services at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Young Family Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of five and a half years, Rhonda Lee Harrelson Laney Zimmerman; one daughter, Alex Laney Madison and husband Jake Madison of Vancouver, B.C.; four sisters: Carol Z. Dixon Oglesby and husband Terry Oglesby of Meadville, MS; Jessica Mcvea of Baton Rouge; Becky McLin Favaron and husband Blaine Favaron of Liberty, MS; Vicky McLin Burke and husband John Burke of Baton Rouge, LA; four brothers: Brett Zimmerman and wife Leslie Zimmerman of Gulfport, MS; Bart Zimmerman and wife Tracey Zimmerman of Baton Rouge; Curtis "Butch" McLin and wife Lisa McLin of Zachary; Steve McLin and wife Lenor McLin of Walker, LA. He has many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by Joycie "Gwen" Gill (Mother), Jess B Gill Jr (Stepfather), Wilmot Zimmerman (Father), Pauline McLin Zimmerman (Stepmother) Lifelong resident of Zachary, LA. He graduated from Zachary High School in 1979. He was a former volunteer firefighter with ZVFD, Master Scuba Diver, Bull Rider, Harley motorcycle builder and rider, a cyclist with Team Dow, and bowled with Tuesday Nite Allstars, Platelet and Blood Donor. He enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, hunting, watching LSU sports and Nascar racing. He volunteered with Cancer Services in Baton Rouge, LA. He also volunteered with hurricane relief after Katrina. He repaired vintage pinball machines and many stained glass projects. He could fix anything from a gas turbine to a sewing machine. He enjoyed helping others and learning new things. He enjoyed visiting with his many friends and family members. He never met a stranger. He fought a battle with cancer in 2007 with dignity, strength, a wonderful attitude and tremendous faith. He had an amazing team of medical professionals, friends, family and prayer partners to help him during treatments and recovery. During his battle with cancer, Artie rarely complained, even when he lost his voice and radiation damage affected the movement in his left arm. Artie's major accomplishment in life was the completion of his beautiful cordwood home with many special friends and family members.
