Obituary for Charles Edgar "Chuck" Civil

Charles Edgar “Chuck” Civil, known as “Pawpaw” to his grandchildren, passed away at dawn on Monday, July 25, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born on September 2, 1927, in Sparr, Florida to Stephen Ephriam Civil and Ruby Mallory Civil, but grew up in Ocala, Florida. He was married to his beloved wife, Marie Parker Civil, for 52 years. He was a resident of Zachary for many years, while he also worked overseas, and after retirement he was a resident of Jarreau for many years.

He worked in the oil field industry for Aquamarine Drilling and worked his way from an entry level position as a deck hand to a Ship’s Captain on supply vessels. He traveled over 100 countries of the world, worked extensively on the North Sea, eventually assuming the role of regional office manager for the Israeli and Egyptian drilling operations in the Sinai Desert. After retirement, he began a new career at Alma Plantation in Jarreau, working in the Tool Room and as a Night Watchman until his early nineties. His work ethic has inspired many throughout his life. He also served in the Korean War and WWII.

A Funeral Mass will take place at St. George Catholic Church at 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 30. 2022. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Paul Yi, with Deacon Glenn Farnet assisting. Interment will follow at Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary.

He is survived by his two daughters, Christine Civil Farnet (husband Glenn M. Farnet Sr. of Baton Rouge) and Deborah Civil Higginbotham (husband Richard R. Higginbotham of Zachary); Grandchildren: Glenn Michael Farnet Jr., Katelyn Danielle Dilley, Emily Farnet McAlister (husband Andrew McAlister), Clifton Larry Scott Dilley, Jonathan Charles Farnet, Mary Elise Farnet and Cameron Ray Higginbotham; Great-grandchildren: Amelia Grace McAlister and Kyleigh Raye Higginbotham; Siblings: Robert Civil and Dorothy Civil Bert; Numerous nieces and nephews.
