Gladys Jackson Kelly, a resident of Slaughter, passed away at the age of 86 on July 24, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. Gladys was born on May 10, 1936, in Grangeville, LA. She was a member of Grangeville Baptist Church. Gladys graduated from Greensburg High School and worked at Clinton Bank. She loved baking, sewing, and gardening. Gladys loved to experience God in creation, especially in her rose garden and watching the hummingbirds and cardinals feed in her yard. She enjoyed spending time with her family and collecting dolls. Christmas was her favorite holiday, where her children and grandchildren were always gifted with a tin full of homemade candies. Gladys was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The highlight of her life was spending time with her beloved husband, Billy. Gladys is survived by her husband, the love of her life for the last 67 years, William “Billy” Kelly, of Slaughter; daughter Debbie McNeer and husband, Jim, of Brandon, MS; daughter Cynthia “Puddin” Schutte and husband, Larry, of Covington; son, Calvin “Bozie” Kelly and fiancée, Brandi Jordan, of Slaughter; six grandchildren: Christie Hayes of Baton Rouge; Casie Burley and her husband, Blake, of Central; Brad Jenkins and his wife, Jennifer, of Slaughter; Charlotte Phillips and her husband, Kevin, of New Orleans; Dominick Navarra and his partner, Natalie Gove, of New Orleans; and Callie Kelly and her fiancée, Brandon Kelly, of Hammond; twelve great-grandchildren: Madison Alford, Kelcie Jenkins, Avery Burley, Miriam Phillips, Jake Burley, Dominick Phillips, Mason Hayes, Alistair Phillips, Kate Burley, Lane Burley, Martin Phillips, and Hazel Broussard; one great, great-granddaughter, Kendall Marie Alford; brother Roy Jerry Jackson, and his wife, Carolyn; sisters Peggy Stevens, Betty Jackson, Mildred Jason, and her husband, Michael; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Jackson; brothers, Tom Jackson and John “Hobo” Jackson, and sister Shirley Stevens. The family is grateful for the care provided by Cardinal Hospice, especially nurse Penny Mileski, Lorraine Davis, and Rev. Jimmy Womack. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 27 at Charlet Funeral Home, 4230 High St., Zachary, from 11 am-noon, with funeral services following. Burial will take place at Grangeville Baptist Church.
