Obituary for Bobby J Ross

Bobby J Ross, 83, a native of Burnsville MS, and resident of Wilson LA, passed away on July 4, 2022, a day prior to the birth of his beloved mother Hazel Newcomb Ross. The family moved to Jackson LA when Bobby was in grade school. A 1958 graduate of McKowen High School in Jackson, Bobby was a gifted athlete in multiple sports. Retired from the former Crown Zellerbach/James River Corporation after 42 years of dedicated service, Bobby rarely missed a day of work until heart surgery sidelined him briefly in the 90s. His real love was his small farm and cows which he worked for 58 years until the time of his death. He was also the former small business owner of a grocery store in Norwood LA. He served his community as a member of the Gas Utility District Number 1 of East Feliciana Parish until his death and served as President for many years. An avid LSU fan, he loved watching the Tigers play football, baseball, and basketball. He loved the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans as well, but the most important thing in his life was his beloved family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren upon him he doted.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Vivian Haynes Ross; daughter Karen Fay Ross, MD; sisters Nelda Ross Sikes, Julia Ross Jett, and Linda Ross; grandchildren Ashleigh Rene Foret and Austin Ross Foret (Kristie Martinez); great-grandchildren Maci Clair Lozier and Collin Scott Foret; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families; surrogate daughter Stephanie Maiden Price; and his four legged canine family Lil Red, Toby and Kit Kat.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia “Cindy” Ross Foret; siblings Troy Ross, Sr., Marie Ross Davis, Minnie Ross White, Mary Ross Poole, Billy Ross, and Johnie Ross; and his parents Leonard Ross and Hazel Newcomb Ross.

Pallbearers are Leonard Buckner, Lee Ross, William Davis, David Ross, Sam D’Aquilla, James Earl Reynolds. Jimmy Ray Schwartz, and Ronald Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Troy Ross, Jr., John Wilson, Richard Dunn, Otto Kilbourne, Donald DeLee, Melvin Easterly, and Ronald Daniel.

Visitation will be from 10 am until 100 PM on Saturday July 9, 2022 at the Wilson Community Church on Sycamore Street in Wilson LA followed by interment at Eastern Star Cemetery in Wilson LA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Jackson Assembly, Jackson LA, where Bobby often worked in the kitchen during the Annual Antique show, or Shriners Hospital for Children.
