Obituary for Charles Jerry "Jerry" Causey

Charles Jerry Causey was born on October 13, 1940 and died on May 15, 2022 in Baton Rouge at the age of 81. Born in Liberty, Mississippi, Jerry moved to Baker while in high school and graduated from Baker High School in 1958. He retired as a millwright from Tembec Corporation in 2004 after 37 years and for several years post-retirement worked in the Electrical Dept. at The Home Depot in Zachary.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carole; three daughters, Angel (Gary) Bastedo, Cynthia (Chris) Allen, and Jenni Melder; grandchildren, Ashton Luke and Grayson Cole Bastedo, and Charles Edward and Elisabeth Asher Melder; brother, Larry (Judy) Causey, nieces and nephews, and his beloved Maine Coon cat Midnight and dachshund Coco. He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Len Causey, parents Charles Sewell and Mattie Mae Causey, infant twin brother Hewitt Eugene Causey, brother Billy Causey and sister Linda Martinez.

He was a true disciple of Christ who loved reading and studying his Bible. He had a passion for nature and music and was blessed with an angelic voice that continuously graced our home as he would burst into song on any occasion. His granddaughter Elisabeth was so mesmerized by his voice she would gaze lovingly into his eyes each and every time he sang. He enjoyed spending time with family, loved riding his grandson Ashton around on his tractor, and cherished his daily after school trips with grandson Grayson to get chicken nuggets, jokingly earning the nickname “Chicken Nugget” by Grayson. His love of finding treasures at thrift stores and garage sales was shared with and now shines through in his grandson Charles. He also loved watching NASCAR and tinkering with lawnmowers and appliances found curbside. He was a master mechanic who could literally fix anything, sometimes with the most unconventional materials.

Jerry leaves behind a legacy of profound kindness, selflessness and generosity; a devout follower of Christ with a deep love for his wife, children, grandchildren and pets; the spiritual leader of our family with a firm understanding of what was important - the simplicity of living an honest life with those you love. He embodied the good that is so desperately needed in the world today.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church Zachary on Thursday, May 19, 2022 with visitation from 9-11am followed by services at 11am. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Gardens in Baker.
