Obituary for John Thomas Netterville Jr.

John Thomas Netterville, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the age of 83.
His life will be celebrated on Thursday, June 17, from 6pm until 8pm at Charlet Funeral Home, Zachary and continue on Friday, June 18, from 9am until service at 10am. His burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Norwood. John Tom was born November 12, 1937 in Centreville, Mississippi. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Addelena "Dell" Whetstone Netterville and his father, John Thomas Netterville, Sr. Those loved ones left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 62 years, Reba Strickland Netterville; their two children, Kevin Netterville (and his wife, Teri) and Lisa Netterville Callahan (and her husband, Rodney); his grandchildren, Madison Callahan, Logann Callahan Vidrine (and husband, Anthony); Steele, Summer and Slade Netterville; and great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Wyatt, Ashlynn and Waylon. John Tom was a 1955 graduate of Centreville high school, followed by a degree from Southwest Mississippi Junior College. Upon graduation, he served two years in the US Army. He loved his country and the principles it was founded upon. After 30 years, John Tom retired from his job at Paxon, and greatly enjoyed his life as a grandfather to his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. John Tom was known as having a tough exterior but if you ever witnessed him around his grand-babies, or great-grandbabies, you would see that hard outer shell turn to absolute mush. Oh, how he loved those babies. He delighted in each and every academic or athletic achievement any of them ever received. He loved bird hunting with his son and grandsons in Arkansas and Kansas and he loved deer hunting with his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters here in Louisiana. Known for his love of old westerns, you could rarely walk into his home when he wasn't watching Gunsmoke, bonanza and his secret guilty pleasure, "The Young and the Restless." John Tom believed that the greatest way he could show love to his family was to provide them with every opportunity to better their lives and become happy and successful human beings in this world. And he succeeded greatly in this realm of his life. Pallbearers will be Kevin, Steele and Slade Netterville, Rodney Callahan, Anthony Vidrine and Kenneth Butler. We will miss his mischievous grin, his unique brand of humor and the way he melted when one of his grandbabies was placed in his arms. He will forever remain in our hearts and in our minds
