Obituary for Edna Ophelia Smith (Stokes)

Edna Stokes Smith, of Slaughter, LA, went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2021. She was born in Bunkie, LA on February 24, 1922. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to many. Edna was preceded in death by her: husband of 63 years, Robert E Smith Sr, her parents Milton and Ophelia Stokes Sr, sisters Alma Zimmer, Cora Lee Harrelson, Ella Stokes and Helen Bruce, brothers Milton and William Stokes. She is survived by two children: Robert (Rocky) Smith (Paula) and daughter Donna Williams (Pat), four grandchildren Angela Robinson (Joe), Kristen McGraw (Jason), Jason Williams (Katie), and Jana Brandon (Luke), thirteen great grandchildren Caleb, Eden, Lily, Seth, Luke, and Rosie Robinson, Hollis Lee and Emery McGraw, Ali, Ryland, and Emery Williams, Lucas and Brody Brandon. She worked for the Louisiana State Insurance Commission, Lane Memorial Hospital and assisted in running the family cattle farm. She was an active member of Zachary United Methodist Church. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the wonderful sitters for all their loving care. Also thank you to hospice of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers: Rocky Smith, Jason Williams, Caleb Robinson, Joe Robinson, Jason McGraw and Luke Brandon. Junior pallbearers: Seth and Luke Robinson, Hollis Lee McGraw, Ryland Williams and Lucas Brandon. Services will be held at Zachary United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with funeral services starting at 12:00 PM. Burial will be at the Port Hudson National Cemetery at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zachary United Methodist Church.
