Obituary for Lester Ray Schmidt

Lester Ray Schmidt was born October 24, 1929 and passed away on February 20, 2021 at the age of 91. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In his early life, he co-owned and operated a local dairy farm with his dad. Later, he became an electrician and retired from the IBEW Electrical Union after 35 years. He served as an East Feliciana Parish Police Juror and a member of the East Feliciana Gas District for several years. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Zachary, LA. He is survived by three daughters, Debbie Brecheen and husband, Wayne, Leslie Schmidt, and Jeanelle Carson and husband, Chris, eight grandchildren, Michelle Ryman and husband, Roger, Huffman, TX; Jessica Martin and husband, Ray, Baskin, LA; Ashley Kent and husband, Adam Peters, Pecs, Hungary; Bradley Behrnes and wife, Kelly, Slaughter, LA; Jason Rosen, Baton Rouge, LA; Brittany Rosen, Newport Beach, CA; and Trevor Carson, Belmont, NH. He was also blessed with eight great grandchildren, Kessler, Carter and Colin Bordwell, Huffman, TX; Kayla and Trey Martin, Baskin, LA; Parker Riley, Landry Kate, and Bradley Walker Behrnes, Slaughter, LA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Maude Granger Schmidt, his parents, Henry and Edith Schmidt, sister, Rita Johnson, and nephew, James Ladell Johnson. A private graveside service will be held at Redwood Cemetery, Slaughter, LA. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Gideons International Baker Camp, P.O. Box 276, Baker, LA 70704.
