Keith H. Day, Sr, a life-long resident of Zachary, passed away on December 29, 2020, at the age of 65. He was a 1974 graduate of Zachary High School. In 2017, he retired from the City of Zachary after many years of dedicated service. Keith was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman whose favorite pastime was spending time on the banks of the Mississippi River at Cat Island, dreaming of his next big catch. At one point, he even held the state record for catching the largest blue catfish, which weighed 110 lb. Keith was also a master "piddler" and tinkerer who could spend hours fixing lawnmowers for friends or working on his old truck. His children have fond memories of the go-carts he built when they were growing up. Keith was "one of a kind" and loved by all who knew him. He was kind-hearted to all of God's creatures. He once went rabbit hunting and instead of bringing home trophies of the rabbit variety, the Day family ended up with a new pot-bellied pig for a pet that was lovingly named Luffer. Keith loved his pets. Over his lifetime, he always had a special animal friend with whom he shared a special bond. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family. He is preceded in death by his father, Ivy Ellis Day, and mother, Mavis Allen Day. He is survived by his special friend, Patricia Roberts; brother, Dennis Day; son, Keith Day, Jr. (Jennifer); daughter, Mandy Bourgeois (Robby); his grandchildren: Matthew Day, Nathan Day, Caleb Bourgeois, Emma Bourgeois, and Amelia Bourgeois. He is also survived by lifelong friend Patricia Day Battle, as well as extended family and work friends. Pallbearers are Jake Graves, Wayne Day, Morgan Day, Wayne Allison, Huey "Mann" Patin, and Archie "Scooter" Day Jr. Honorary Pallbearer is Lionell Lawson. In light of the COVID pandemic, a graveside service will be held at Azalea Rest Cemetery on January 2, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.
