Homer Knost Jr., born of May Craig and George Homer Knost on June 1, 1925, passed away on June 11, 2019. Homer was the youngest of his siblings; Sybil Hardesty, Kenneth Knost, Crystal Brubaker and Lloyd Knost. Upon graduating high school, Homer married Nita Benge Knost with whom he shared four children; Jayne Knost Snyder, Dr. Jim (and Debbie) Knost, Tom (and Sandy) Knost and Karla Knost(and Barney) Luttrell. Homer continued growing his family as he married his devoted wife of 52 years, Dorothy "Dotti" Goldman Knost with whom he shared three children; Scottie Knost, George Homer Knost, III (and Christina Jandreau) and Eddie (and Tonya) Knost. Homer had 13 grandchildren-Stephanie, Angela, Denvil, Jay, Matt, Megan, Bryan, Paige, Casey, Joey, "Gunnar", Candace and Rebecca, 16 great-grandchildren-Steven, Spencer, Sterling, Rayvin, Gavyn, Hudson Gabe, Grace, Henry, Hazel, Berkley, Thomas, Charley, Ruth, Levi and Lucy; and great great grandchild-Camden. At the onset of the WWII, at the age of 15, Homer Knost started a cane pole fishing manufacturing business with the determination to raise money to buy a local filling station that had fallen on hard times due to the war. He sold the fuel to his friends and neighbors, and later, the station. Thus beginning his illustrious, adventurous and near 80 year career as an entrepreneur. Homer was the key operating officer of numerous diversified engineering, procurement, logistical, maintenance and construction companies throughout his career. He ventured into myriad fields of work that included the petrochemical, cogeneration, agricultural and sugar industries, as well as many satellite industries. His work spanned the globe-working in more than 65 countries and almost every state in the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii. He served as U.S. Chairman of the Sudan-U.S. Business Council and served on the board of Export-Import Bank of the United States. Homer served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. His accomplishments were always shared with the men and women that worked with and for him, and his appreciation of their dedication and commitments were endless. He wished to thank his Administrative Assistant, Evelyn Smith, known as "Mrs. E" around the world, for her loyalty and dedication for over 60 years, and his trusted and treasured friend, Marilyn Monroe for her kindness and friendship. Homer was a horseman, a cattleman, a businessman, a friend, a confidant, a brother in law, a daddy and a husband. Often referred to as Papa, he loved his farm, the Big Horn Mountains, trees, the seasons, flowers, his dogs, song birds, a good book, poetry, bird hunting, fly fishing, Dotti's good cooking, the Thursday Night Jam and enjoyed any adventure life set before him. Homer Knost was sure, quiet, gentile and kind, Homer Knost will be respected, remembered and missed.
Visitation will be on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary from 9:00 am until service time at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Knost Cemetery at Road Runner Farms.
