Obituary for John David "JD" Morris

John David Morris, “J.D.”, 85, died on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at his home in Jackson surrounded by his wife and six children. He was retired, after working for many years for the Louisiana Department of Corrections. There will be a visitation on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary from 5pm until 8pm with a Masonic Rite at 7pm. Visitation continues on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 9am until service time at 10am, conducted by Rev. Jimmy Womack. Burial will be at Wales Cemetery in Chipola. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosa Prewitt Morris; two daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Smith and husband Henry “Boobee” and Barbara “Babs” Hudson and husband Donald “Skip”; four sons: David Morris and wife Janice; Donald Morris and wife Debbie; Cliff Morris; and Victor Morris and wife Laura Manning; three sisters, Mildred Haley, Jayne Mitchell and husband, Mitch, and Dorothy Allen; two brothers, Victor “Bill” Morris and Wayne Morris and wife, Janie; eleven grandchildren: Nick Morris and wife, Adrienne, Craig Morris, Chris Morris and wife, Lisa, Crystal Maples and husband, Kit, Andrea Bordelon and husband, Ritchie, Holly Baker and husband, Chris, Dustin Smith, Gage Morris, Lauren Hudson, Katherine Price and husband, Joey, Carlyn Hudson; thirteen great-grandchildren: Justin Morris, Rebecca Morris, McKinley Morris, Stephanie Morris, Reid Morris, Cade Maples, Morgan Maples, Layne Williams, Alexa Williams, Sadie Mae Baker, Lyndsey Bordelon, Madelyn Bordelon, and Garrett Bordelon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earlie and Ellen Morris, sisters Betty Lou Smith and Evelyn Stinson. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Lay, Danny Trusty, and all of his Bluegrass Family. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served in the Korean War aboard the USS Bremerton. He was the past Treasurer of the Mississippi Bluegrass Association; a promoter of Bluegrass on the Creek in Tylertown, MS for 16 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Slidell Lodge No. 311 and a member of New Orleans Scottish Rite since 1967. Special thanks to the entire staff at Cardinal Hospice and Lorraine Davis for all the care and compassion shown to our Dad during this time.
