A resident of Zachary, Chester C. Calcote, died on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 at Baton Rouge General Butterfly Wing. He was 81 years old and was retired from Louisiana Department of Transportation. He was also a US Army Veteran. Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd, Baton Rouge on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 from 10:30am until service at 12:30pm conducted by Rev. Brady Whitton, Rev. Willis Dear and Rev. Ricky Willis. Burial will be in Louisiana National Cemetery, Zachary.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cheryl E. Calcote. 2 daughters, Mignonne Ramagos and husband, Henry and Leigh Reed and husband, Lee, all of Zachary. A sister, Linda Faye Seymour and husband, Jerry of Ocean Springs, MS. 2 brothers, Charles Calcote and wife, Cathy and Michael Calcote and wife, Cheryl all of Wesson, MS.5 grandchildren, Cade Ramagos, Madelyn Rose, Caroline Ramagos, Jude Reed and Maria Reed. He is preceded in death by his father, Cade Calcote, mother, Bernice Calcote and 3 sisters, Flora Jean Byrd, Janice Smith Satterfield and Virginia Raye Calcote. Pallbearers will be Kevin Byrd, Barry Calcote, Vince Giaccone, Karl Byrd, Glynn Estess, Jr., and Donald North. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Calcote, Cade Ramagos, Jude Reed, Chad Calcote and Crew of Zachary Food Pantry. Chester was a graduate of Mississippi State University. He graduated in Civil Engineering and worked 34 years for the LA DOTD. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for 55 years serving in many different ministries as a Servant of Christ. Chester was very active within the Community such as Baton Rouge and Zachary food banks, Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, Revive 225 and countless other community and faith-based organizations. Chester was an avid sports fan, whether it was his Bull Dawgs or the Fighting Tigers. He was a very devoted grandfather following his grandchildren’s activities even if it meant traveling out the state.
