Obituary for Wellington Warner "Redbug" Carter Jr.

Wellington Warner Carter, Jr., a resident of Clinton and native of Baton Rouge, died on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018. He was 84 years old and was former owner of Western Auto in Clinton and was retired from East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was in the US Army Reserve.

Visitation will be at Feliciana Baptist Church, Clinton, on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 from 9am until service at 12pm conducted by Rev. Todd Whirley. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Clinton.

He is survived by his daughter, Anita Hemphill and husband, Mark of Pride and Roger Carter and wife, Christina of Denham Springs. 3 sisters, Sally Larson, Brandon, MS; Peggy Bales and husband Robert, Kenner and Jane Terito, Baton Rouge.

6 grandchildren, Kayla Carter, Zack and Kade Hemphill, Caston, Noah and Nathan Carter.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Ethel LaJoyce Carter, parents, W.W., Sr., and Lucille Powers Carter, and a brother, Clyde Louis Carter.

Pallbearers will be Caston Carter, Michael Cox, Mark Hemphill, Zack Hemphill, Bradley Perkins, and Dr. Thomas Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Hardwick, Bob Bales, Eddie Stewart, John Powell, Bobby Ash, James Hunt and Elaine Pruyn.

Redbug was a member of the Lions Club, Clinton Volunteer Fire Department, Los Amigas Club and Silliman Chain Gang. He was also an Alderman for the Town of Clinton and an avid LSU football fan and has been a season ticket holder for 60 years. Redbug was the football escort for Clinton High School for many years.
