Obituary for Lane Douglas "Doug" Norwood

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 After a courageous fight, Doug began his eternal life in his heavenly home on October 12, 2018, at the age of 71. He was a man who wore many hats, or in his case, “caps.” He served as a navy veteran of the Vietnam War, a Baton Rouge Fireman for 31 years, an employee of ROCO Rescue, was a friend to all, and a loving son and brother. Most importantly, he was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and Papa D. He was survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sandra Nesom Norwood, his son and friend, Lane Douglas Norwood, Jr. and wife Kelli, his daughter, April Norwood Smith and husband Jon Smith, his five grandchildren, Ragan Griffin, Rylee Norwood, Paige Covert, Alyssa Smith, and Carly Smith, his brother, Bruce Norwood and wife Arlene, his sister, Amy Garza and husband, Manny, his uncle, Carl Chaney, his many nieces and nephews, Shane Norwood, Brock Norwood, Wendy Spedale, Chris Genre, Michael Stuart, Shannon Irvine, Jordon Garza, and Kelby Garza, his namesake, Andrew Douglas Foil, and beloved friends, Paul Ingram, Carroll Campbell, Buddy Fitzhugh, and Randy Pogue. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.J. and Sybil Norwood, and close friends, Henry Jones, Richard Cooper, and Travis McBride. Visitation will be at Sandy Creek Baptist Church from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, and will resume on Wednesday, October 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Religious services will begin at 12:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be representatives of the Baton Rouge Fire Department, ROCO Rescue, and the United States Navy. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who lovingly cared for him during his illness.
