Obituary for Sarah Phares Chaney

Sarah Margaret Phares Chaney, age 88, passed away at her home in Clinton, LA on August 13, 2018. She was a native of Clinton but spent many years of her life in Baton Rouge where she taught 5th grade for 20 years in East Baton Rouge Parish Schools. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University with a Master's degree in Education. Sarah is survived by her husband of 69 years, Don Chaney. Following their retirement in the early 1980s, Sarah and Don spent many happy years traveling the country in their motor home and following LSU football, basketball and baseball. A highlight of their year was the annual trip to Omaha for the College World Series where they enjoyed the close friendships they made with baseball lovers from across the country. Sarah was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church where she was a choir member for many years and active in UMW. She was also a regular volunteer at the Dorcas Door in Clinton. Sarah is also survived by her children Bill Chaney and wife Barbara, Nancye Roussel, Susan Chaney, Pat Chaney and his wife Linda; her grandchildren Jack Chaney and wife Candace, Kate Montgomery and husband Patrick, Steve Roussel, John-Michael Roussel, Rick Roussel and wife Jenna and Emily Gremillion and husband Jason; 7 great grandchildren with 2 more expected soon. She is preceded in death by her parents Haden Henry and Caroline Amelia Gallent Phares of Clinton, LA and a brother, Haden Henry Phares, who died at birth. Services will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Clinton UMC. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM with the funeral service at 11:00 AM followed by burial at Rosehill Cemetery in Clinton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Jude or a charity of one's choice.
