Obituary for Andrew Jefferson "Andy" Dunn

Andrew Jefferson Dunn died on Friday, January 12, 2018, at his home
in St. Francisville, LA, with his wife and oldest daughter by his
side. His wife and friends called him Andy, but most people knew him
as Major Dunn.
Andy was born on July 15, 1944 in Sondheimer, LA. He served in the
United States Army in multiple roles during the Vietnam War from
1963-1965, and then in the Army Reserves until 1969.
1968 was a momentous year for Andy. In August, he went to work at
Angola State Penitentiary, where he built a successful 34 year career.
In November, he met the woman he would love for his entire life; they
married in 1970 and spent 48 years together. They raised 3 children,
focusing on building a warm and loving home.
He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting in his youth to put food on his
family's table. As an adult, he became an accomplished fisherman,
filling up the family's freezers with catfish and crawfish. Andy read
voraciously and spent 20 years following his favorite series, Robert
Jordan's Wheel of Time, with his son and oldest daughter. Although he
was intensely private and did not mince words, he valued many simple
pleasures - cooking crawfish ettouffe with his kids, lovingly teasing
his beloved wife, eating a mess of frog legs and fried eggs, drinking
a cup of chicory coffee, and petting his dogs, Belle and Maggie.
His goal in life was to be a good man, husband, father, and friend. He
succeeded. Andy is survived by his wife, Kathryn Mills Dunn;
son, Dr. Andrew Terrell Dunn and wife Kelly of Buffalo, NY;
daughters, Lori Dunn Castello and husband Shane, and Holli Kathryn Dunn,
both of St. Francisville, LA; brother, John Dunn and wife Eva of
Montgomery, LA; sister, Josephine Dunn Case and husband Ray of Brookhaven, MS.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Madison Dunn, Skyller Castello,
Emelia Sullivan, Alexander Dunn, Ryley Sullivan, Emma Dunn, and Junie
Dunn.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Ruby Dunn and
numerous brothers and sisters.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Vince Cataldo, Dr. Tim
Lindsey, and nurse Clarissa with St. Joseph's Hospice.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Charlet Funeral
Home, Inc., Zachary from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a 6:30 pm memorial
service.
