Carey James “Jimmy” Vickers, Jr- devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, while surrounded by his loved ones, passed away peacefully at the age of 70, the morning of July 24, 2017. Celebration of life services to be held on Thursday July 27, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., 4230 High Street, Zachary, LA 70791. Jimmy was born September 21, 1946 in Baton Rouge, LA. He graduated from Baton Rouge High in 1965. Jimmy married the love of his life Tonja Jo Tredway in 1968. The love, compassion and devotion that Jimmy had for Tonja was also felt throughout his family and the many dear friends he acquired throughout the years. Jimmy was a man of integrity and hard work, a legacy he passed to his children and grandchildren, as many have said “there wasn’t anything that man couldn’t do”. In addition to the unlimited number of skills he had he was an expert in Heavy Equipment Operation, Welding and Electrical work. He worked many years as a member of IUOE Local 406 and IBEW Local 995. Jimmy had a great love for the outdoors. In his early years, he was a roper and one of the first Greenwell Springs Youth Riders in Greenwell Springs, LA. Jimmy also raced dirt cars and was an avid bass fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Tonja Vickers. His son John Vickers Blackburn, his wife Holly and their children Michelle and Colby. His Daughter Aliena Vickers Hanks, her husband Rob and their children Leighet Jackson and Parker. His Daughter Lea Vickers Paxton, her husband Devin and their children Haley Lord, Garrett, Jesse, Cole and Addison Paxton and Chase Lord, his fiancé Morgan and their children Kinleigh, Adilynn, and Harper. His sister Joyce Yvonne “Butsie” Moreau and her daughter Tracy. Sister-in-law Susie Vickers and her son Mikie, and niece Misty. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Carey and Marguerite Vickers, his brothers Gerald Wayne “Skeeterbug” and Michael Dale Vickers.
Jimmy always had a smile on his face and loved to make people laugh. He made many friends and made life long impressions on many people. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
