Obituary for Chip C. Efferson

Chip C. Efferson, 77 a resident of Ethel, LA died at his home on Sunday, December 4, 2016. He was retired. Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 10am until funeral services at 12noon, conducted by Rev. Ed Jelks. Burial will be in Azalea Rest Cemetery. He is survived by two sons, Denny M. Efferson and his wife Donna of St. Francisville, LA; Kary C. Efferson of Zachary; grandchildren Abby Harrell and Paige Efferson; and great-granddaughter Lillian Paige Harrell. He was preceded in death by his father, E. C. Efferson, his mother, Myrtis Efferson, three sisters Anice Parish, Nona Hoover, and Marlene Pourciau, and sons Laine Carter Efferson and Barry Wayne Efferson. He graduated from Istrouma High School in the glory days of 1957 and later graduated from LSU with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. At Istrouma High School, he was an outstanding basketball player and a track and field long distance runner. He was also the head cheerleader for Istrouma High. Every three months or four times a years, Chip would attend a luncheon at Don’s Seafood. That club was known as the “Good Old Boys” and consisted of men who graduated Istrouma High School and Redemptorist High School. Once a year, he enjoyed attending a North Baton Rouge reunion, which is always held the Thursday after the 4th of July at the Atrium. He attended the First Baptist Church of Ethel, LA, where he sometimes taught Sunday School classes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Since 2002, he has been a regular for Tiger Football at the Walton’s.
