Elon B. "EB" Smelley Jr.
EB, a resident of Zachary and a member of First Baptist Church, passed away July 14, 2018 at the age of 94. He was a WWII veteran serving in the 71st and 45th infantry in the Army and marched all over Europe with General Patton. Survived by his 4 children and their spouses, Buster (Sherry) Smelley, Dianne (Les) Anderson, Debra (Marty) Caruso, Gary (Laurel) Smelley, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nova Dee Smelley, parents, Elon B. Smelley, Sr. and Beryl Rhodes Smelley Herget, the couple who raised him Raymond R. and Emmie Vick Smelley, and great grandson, Aiden Babineaux. Pallbearers are Ray, Michael, Doug and John Smelley, Brad Jewell, Josh Starns, Hunter Causey and Brian Babineaux. Honorary pallbearers are Barrett and Marshall Smelley and Ryan Anderson. Special thanks to Oakwood Village Assistant Living in Zachary, Chase Healthcare, and Hospice of Baton Rouge, Butterfly Wing. Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 10am until service at 12pm conducted by Dr. Les Colvin, Associate Pastor, First Baptist Church, Zachary. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Clinton.
