Please accept my condolence over Stella Ashford's passing. I remember Stella as a particularly dedicated graduate student in mathematics at LSU, when she was in one of my classes. Years after her doctoral graduation, I had the pleasure of teaching her daughter Katrina who was also a student at LSU. I was reminded of both Stella and Katrina when Katrina sent one of her students this spring to ask me questions about a book I had written. So I see that Stella's mathematical legacy continues through her daughter and through their students. Of course this is just one of many ways her contributions live on in many individuals.
