Condolence: I knew Dr. Waters for the past 55 years. He was a teacher, mentor and supervisor. But, most of all to me, he was a great extension agent. I learned much, by example, from him that helped me to in my 44 year extension agent career. I will miss him, but will try to follow in his example.

Condolence From: CCWO5 Mervin LeBlanc (Ret)
Condolence: To the Waters family my sincere condolences. Geneva, I’m sure you will remember me after I tell my story. I met LTC Bill Waters at Camp Beauregard during an annual training period when I was the Command Sergeant Major of the 769th Engineer Battalion. He was Commander of the 2223rd Engineer Battalion attending its annual training period at the same time period. He would come into our headquarters from time to time always stopping to have a few words with me when he was leaving. The last day he told me that he would see if he could have me transferred to his headquarters, and I told him I was perfectly satisfied where I was. He gave me that little grin he had and a look like he knew something I didn’t know. Well by the next year when annual training period came around he was Commander of the 769th Engr Bn and I was his CSM, I thought a match made in heaven. I respected him, learned from him and the experience made me a better soldier. It was a mutual respect, and we made a good team, not only in uniform but as Professor Waters and “Coon” LeBlanc. When he was mad you knew it, when he was proud it showed, when he was happy everyone shared it. I not only respected him, but loved him as well - you couldn’t help it. Now I am sad, God bless you Bill Waters for sharing my life.

Condolence: So many fond memories of the Waters household. As an adult looking back-Mr. Waters basically kept a horse for me to ride. Sure I helped Donna ride but I rode Baby everyday for ages. A place where I learned how to play cribbage and had many sleep overs. My 2nd home. (or was it third?)

Condolence From: Elizabeth, daughter of Geneva
Condolence: PaBill has been a father to me for over 36 years, grandfather to my 3 children, Christie, John and David, great grandfather to my 8 grandchildren, Conor, Jordan, Peyton, Cade, Kyndal, Cami, Raegan and Riley. He has influenced each of us in so many beautiful ways. He was such a great influence on all my family. We have shared wonderful visits full of love, laughter and precious memories. His greatest gift to me was his love and care of my mother, Geneva Waters, the love of his life. A true southern gentleman, full if wise advice and love, he will be greatly missed.

Condolence: We met Bill Waters in the early days of his courtship with Geneva, while living in Houston, TX. Bill with his soft spoken, Cajun accent was thoughtful, brilliant, a leader among men and respected by all that he met. He loved people and was always ready to help those whom he saw in need, family, friends, brothers and sisters in Christ. My family spent time visiting in both, Baton Rouge, LA and Zachary, LA. We feel privileged to have shared good times with Bill and share your sorrow. However, he has been called home to live with our Heavenly Father. And will be certainly missed by all who knew him.

Condolence From: COL (Ret) Calvin & Jan Washispack
Condolence: Our deepest sympathies and condolences to Geneva and family. Whenever a fellow Guardsperson/comrade passes, it really brings back old memories and it hurts. I never served under COL Water's command. I first knew him when he was Battalion Commander, 2223rd Eng Bn, Baton Rouge LA. The 769th Engr Bn and the 2223rd Engr Bn were co-located at the Armory on Foss St and later moved to the new Armory at the METRO Airport, Baton Rouge. LTC Waters (at the time) was a great guy. He was always passionate about his organization and the people under his command. In the late 1990's, we would go RV camping at Indian Creek Recreational area, Woodworth LA. COL Waters and Geneva would also come RV camping at Indian Creek. So, we got to know the on personal/social basis. The became great friends. In fact COL Waters taught me about indulging in a martini (using Beefeaters gin), placing the bottle of gin in the freezer and it is best just before it would freezes. It is the “Soldier” In Memorial Honor for COL William “Bill” H. Waters Louisiana National Guard It’s the Soldier, not the pastor/preacher, who has given us freedom of religion and worship. It’s the Soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It’s the Soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It’s the Soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble and demonstrate. It’s the Soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It’s the Soldier, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote, ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. It’s the Soldier, Who salutes the Flag, who serves beneath the Flag and whose coffin is draped by the Flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag. ETERNAL REST GRANT HIM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM.
