Christopher Michael Lawton died on Monday, March 12, 2018 while serving his community. He was 41 years old and a Deputy Chief with Zachary Fire Department.

Visiting will be at Zachary United Methodist Church on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 5pm until 8pm and continues on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Zachary United Methodist Church from 9am until religious service at 12pm conducted by Rev. Ricky Willis and Rev. Harold Babin. Burial will be in Maranatha Cemetery in Clinton. Marantha comes from two Aramean words meaning “Our Lord Comes”.

Chris is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Shannon. 2 children who were his world, Marshall and Claire.

His parents, Doug and Pam Lawton and Joy and Terry Decuir. Father in law and mother in law, Tim and Dorothea Holley. Siblings, Tommy Lawton and wife, Summer; Brad Lawton and wife, Brandi; Kristin Cummings and husband, Brad; and Kelli Knight and husband, Jonathan. Sisters in law and brothers in law, Emma and Chad Fontenot, Tony Kaiser and Sheena and Ryan Wisler. Grandparents, Rev. Bob Lawton, Byron Andrus and Wilma Farmer. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Barbara Lawton, Elton and Jenny Messer, Helen Andrus, Marshall and Fena Savage and uncle, John Lawton. Pallbearers will be Marshall Lawton, Chad Felps, Tommy Lawton, Brad Lawton, Jonathan Roberts, Chad Mouton and Micah Flint. Honorary pallbearers will be C Shift of Zachary Fire Department and past and present members of Zachary Fire Department and past and present members of Zachary Police Department.

Chief Lawton was a dedicated public servant. He served the citizens of Zachary for over twenty years. Chief Lawton started his public service career with District Six Fire Department in 1996. He then became a full-time firefighter with the Zachary Fire Department in March of 1998 and worked his way through the ranks. Chief Lawton received his Fire Science degree from LSU in 2000. At the time of his death, Chief Lawton held the position of Deputy Chief, the second highest rank within the Zachary Fire Department. He was also an Arson Investigator for the City of Zachary. Chief Lawton served as a Zachary Police Department Reserve Officer, joining the Police Department in May 2008. During Chief Lawton's career, he received numerous awards including: Medical Life Saves, Fire Stops, Unit and Crew Citations. In 2017, Chief Lawton became a Post Firearm Training Instructor. He was an active and founding member of the Zachary Firefighter Association, Local 4644. Chief Lawton was a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators, Zachary Police Reserves, Zachary United Methodist Church and Zachary Cross Fit.

Chris was a devoted father and husband. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Chris enjoyed being in the woods. It was his place of comfort and strength. The woods were his place to reconnect with God.
