Obituary for Kathleen Louise Riddle "Katie" Mills

Mills, Kathleen Louise Riddle “Katie”
Kathleen Louise Riddle Mills, “Katie” died on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at her home. She was 97 years old and a resident of The Plains. Kathleen Louise Riddle Mills was born into this world and raised with siblings, Mary Lourena Riddle Mills and Napoleon Brannon Riddle by Godly parents, Dr. Napoleon Bonapart Riddle and Kathleen Theresa Hastings Riddle, in St. Francisville and for her entire life has honored her father and mother as commanded in the fifth commandment: “Honor your father and mother so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you” Exodus 20:12. Kathleen stood firm and unwavering in her faith in God for her entire life and trusted wholly in his son, Jesus Christ, for her eternal salvation. She applied herself diligently in preparation for her life’s vocation as wife, mother, and homemaker and having graduated Julius Freyhan High School in St. Francisville in 1938, and earned a degree in Home Economics from Belhaven College in Jackson, MS in 1942. She loved and remained faithful to her husband, Albert Carter Mills, Jr. for 72 years. Kathleen has always been an exemplary Christian wife, mother and homemaker as she consistently and devotedly ministered to and cared for her husband and four children during her entire life, as personified by the proverbial woman in Proverbs 31 25-34. She loved with devotion, genuine interest and personal attention to her four children, 19 grandchildren, 85 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren as affirmed in Psalms 127: 3-4: “Behold children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.” Kathleen avoided being critical and condemning of her four children’s weaknesses and failures, but responded instead with her naturally spontaneous praise and affirmation of their strengths and successes. Kathleen possessed an inherently sweet, gentle, humble and hospitable nature that made us and everyone else comfortable and at ease in her presence...never vindictive, never condescending and never exuding an air of superiority. She has always been as beautiful on the inside as she has been on the outside and was rewarded by her classmates at Belhaven College with the distinction of “Miss Belhaven” in 1941, and as described in 1 Peter 3:3. Kathleen consistently grew in her faith through personal Bible study, prayer, and faithful support of her church, The Plains Presbyterian Church, through regular attendance, active involvement in the overall life of the church including stewardship, women’s activities, youth activities, teacher of Sunday School and Bible school, choir member, and faithfully supporting her husband, our father, as a ruling elder. She has maintained lifelong friendships in the community and continues to be loved and respected by them as well as the church members. Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Mills Davis, and 2 sons, Wilmer Riddle Mills and wife, Betsy Jennings Mills and David Pipes Mills II and wife, Mary Lynn Farmer Mills and daughter in law, Dorothy Watts Mills and numerous descents. She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Albert Carter Mills, Jr., a son, Albert Carter Mills, III; grandson, Wilmer Hastings Mills; son in law, John Mallory Davis. Parents, Dr. and Mrs. N.B. Riddle, her sister Lourena Riddle Mills and brother, Dr. N.B. Riddle. Pallbearers will be her sons, Wilmer and David Mills, grandsons, Carter, Andy, Stuart, John, David, Jr. And Kirk Mills and John Dan and Mallory Davis and brother in law, Gilbert C. Mills. Visitation will be at Plains Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 from 5pm until 7pm and continues on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 from 9am until religious service at 11am conducted by Rev. Campbell Sillman. Burial will be in Young Family Cemetery, Zachary. Kathleen Louise Riddle Mills, is undeniably the very best, most gracious, most loving wife and earthly mother that we could have ever been blessed with. “Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?” Job 12:12. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young Family Cemetery or the Plains Presbyterian World Missions.
