Obituary for Wallace Lawrence Brown

Wallace Lawrence Brown
Wallace Brown, 81, returned to his Heavenly Father on December 25th, 2017. He was born in American Fork, Utah as the 6th of 8 children of Wallace Brown and Verda Anderson. His siblings are Joyce, Barbara, Carol, Teresa, Faye, Kaylynn and Stewart. Wally graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. He then joined the US Air Force, where he served our country for 4 years. He was stationed in Germany as a radio operator for the majority of his term.

Wallace was married to Jerry Linda Jones by James Henry Jones (Linda’s father) on October 10th, 1959; they were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on October 19th, 1959. Wallace and Linda moved to Los Angeles California where Wallace attended Los Angeles City College and worked a variety of jobs. They returned to Louisiana in 1965, residing in Zachary for 33 years, Baker for 10 years and then Baton Rouge for the past 9 years. They were faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Wallace served as a Boy Scout leader for 25 years. He received several scouting awards such as Wood Badge training, Philmont training and the Silver Beaver Award. His greatest joy in scouting was serving as a troop scout master for local Baker Troop 225. He enjoyed summer camping at Avondale and taking his troop to the National Jamboree in Coeur d’Alene Idaho. A fond memory was when his scouts froze his cap in Kool-Aid. The hat was never the same afterwards.

Wallace had a passion for Youth. Aside from scouts, he organized church youth basketball leagues and activities. He was often seen running up and down the sidelines in the church gym serving as the referee. He was driven to see teens succeed.

Wallace served in many LDS church callings including Branch President (German Military Branch), Branch President (Slaughter, Louisiana), Young Men’s President, Ward Mission Leader, and Temple worker amongst many others over the years. He found great satisfaction sharing his knowledge of the gospel. So intent was he on teaching that sweat would often pour from of his face. He loved the Book of Mormon and spent hours studying the chronology of the entire book. He found true happiness spreading the gospel with others.

Wallace was a simple man and lived a simple life. He loved working on projects. At one point, he was a beekeeper. If he didn’t have a current project, he would think one up just to keep his mind and hands busy. He had the best tool “man cave” imaginable, fondly named “Wally World.” He loved “fixing” things and keeping busy.

Wallace worked at Exxon as a Rigger. He was responsible for unloading oil from the ships that docked on the Mississippi River. He would often bring food to the other workers as a sign of his friendship. At one point, his sons, Larry and Kevin got the opportunity to work with Wallace at Exxon. This brought him great pride and joy. After retiring from Exxon, he returned as a contractor. Eventually a life altering accident dampened his mobility, but it never stopped him from continuing his projects.

In his retirement years, Wallace’s respect for the military became a passion. He enjoyed war time novels and videos. His respect for our military men and women and their service became unequaled. His greatest pride was the service rendered by his grandson Devin Brunson-AC2 (1992-2017) in the US Navy.

Wallace and Linda Brown had 5 children, Wallace Lawrence Brown, Jr. (Larry) married to Sherrie Johnston, James Kevin Brown married to Susan Keh, Jay Dean Brown married to Heidi Blanchard, William Eric (deceased 1972) and Julee Lynett Brown married to David Brunson.

Beloved nephew is Donnie Cooper married to Janice Whittington.

Uncle Wally is also survived by many loving friends considered as family by the Brown’s. These people included the Russel Penton Clan, the James Rioux family, the Vicki and Rusty Beard family, the Cooper family, the Joe Martin family, the Hickman family, the Talley family and the scouts of Troop 225 including Vernon Blalock and Robin Hall. Wallace Brown would say that these were the family he picked for himself here on earth.

The Brown family would also like to thank the many doctors who cared for Wallace over the years; he considered them all friends: Doctors Thad Broussard, Michael Gurisco, Taylor, Adjai, Michael Puyau and Elizabeth Heirtzler, DDS

In his later years, Wallace earnestly attempted to apologize for any of his past offences. He truly believed in the power of love and forgiveness. If he missed you on his list, he says, “I will catch you on the other side.”

Visitation will be on Friday 12/29 at Charlet Funeral Home located at 4320 High Street, Zachary Louisiana from 5-8pm. Grave side dedication and rendering of military honors will be on Saturday 12/30 at the cemetery next to the LDS Pride Louisiana meeting house (16135 Milldale Road, Zachary (Pride), Louisiana) at 10am.
