Obituary for Bertis Earl "Bert" Dixon

Dixon, Bertis Earl "Bert", age 84, died Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, CC and Eugenia Dixon, his wives, Beverly and Juanita Dixon, his brother, William Dixon, and his son in law, Mark Mulkey. Bert is survived by two brothers, Ray Dixon and Jimmy Dixon(Hazel), his three daughters, Brenda Stilley (Lenwood), Debra Mulkey, and Zula Long(Huey), and his four sons, Johnny Bert Dixon (Kim), James Felder, Sam Felder and Ray Felder. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Jeremy and Connor Dixon , Ami Baggett, Kerri Rogillio, Michael Mulkey, Jr., and Corey, Alex, Sam, Jessica and Grace Felder, and give great grandchildren, Tayler and Karley Baggett, Mason Rogillio, Charles Michael Mulkey, and Evelyn Felder. Bert leaves behind his lifelong friend, Hilton Butler.
Bert is a graduate of St. Francisville High, a veteran of the US Navy, and a retired employee of Louisiana State Penitentiary with over 30 years of service. During his career at Angola, he commanded the LSP Chase Team, LSP Rifle Range, LSP Field Operations, and the C.C. Dixon K-9 Training Center. After retirement, he ran the Angola Store for many years before moving on to work ten more years at the Angola Museum.
Bert is remembered for being an avid outdoorsman and for the famous barbecue he made for holidays and special occasions.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at Tunica United Methodist Church. Viewing will be from 10:00 am until services at 12:00 pm. Burial will be in Rogillio Cemetery in Tunica, Louisiana. Pallbearers will be the Louisiana State Penitentiary Honor Guard. The family would like to thank the staff at the Louisiana War Veterans Home, his physicians, and Jennifer Arceneaux.
