Obituary for Ruth Dearl Butler Tubbs

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she left this world on Friday, November 3, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was 86 years old and a long time employee of Louisiana State Penitentiary with over 40 years of service. She worked in many different areas of the prison with the latest being the Angola Museum. She touched so many lives with her smile, and genuine love and respect for everyone. Visiting will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 5pm until 8pm. Visitation continues on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Tunica Baptist Church from 10am until religious service at 1pm conducted by Rev. Mike Clark. Burial will be in Rogillio Cemetery, Tunica. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Charles Michael “Winky” and Vickie Stewart, Robert Mitchell “Mitch” and Rhonda Stewart, John Carroll and Patty Tubbs, Kathy and Louie Calvert, Connie Ruth and Richard Barton and Adrienne Anne “Dree” Barnes and fiancé’ Billy Cross. She is survived by 21 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild due in 2018. She is also survived by a special niece, Donna Davis Hoffman and husband, Bob. She is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Joe Melvin Tubbs, parents, Sheriff J.R. and Lela Frances Butler, 3 sisters and 2 brothers and an infant grandson, William Travis Calvert. Pallbearers will be Andrew Reynolds, Derrick Tubbs, Tyler Calvert, Austin Calvert, Trent Barton, Allen Barton, Ben Oliveaux, Joe Oliveaux and Adam Oliveaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrel Vannoy, Wesley Vannoy, Howard Prince and Merriet Thomas. Special thanks to Dr. Tim Lindsey and Dr. Vince Cataldo for all the care and compassion shown to our mother. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
