Obituary for Carl Edward Cooper

Carl Edward Cooper, 77, a resident of Slaughter, LA and a native of Pride, LA, died on Monday, October 23, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Cooper began in the finance industry in the spring of 1963. For over 50 years Mr. Cooper wore many hats from Collector, Manager and then in 1975 Owner. Throughout the years he was successful in growing his business to 12 offices throughout south Louisiana. His knowledge of the industry played a vital role in the success of Louisiana Finance Association. He gave countless hours to the association while serving on the Board of Governors for eighteen years, as Chairman of the Budget and Audit Committee for twenty-one years and Associate Legislative LIFPAC Committee member for twenty-six years.There will be a visitation on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA from 5pm until 8pm and then on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Ethel Methodist Church in Ethel, LA from 9am until funeral services at 11am, conducted by Rev. Chris Curry. Burial will be at Buetoville Cemetery in Ethel. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra Cooper; two daughters, Lisa Higgins and her husband Brian Higgins of Baton Rouge; Kristi Sagrera and her husband Shawn Sagrera of Ethel, LA; one sister, Oline (Tops) Womack of Zachary; four grandchildren: Lauren Higgins, Carly Higgins, Caroline Sagrera, and Matthew Sagrera. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C. and Gaither Cooper; brother Malcolm James Cooper “Sonny”, and brother-in-law Sam Womack. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Cooper, Jerry Cooper, Brian Higgins, Shawn Sagrera, Matt Walker, Matthew Sagrera, and James Cooper Womack. He was a 1963 graduate of USL. He enjoyed golf, travel, and spending time with his grandchildren.
