Virginia Morris Masterson passed away on Friday September 8, 2017, at 78 years of age, surrounded in her own home by her sons and family, just as she had always wished. She was born in Morgan County, Ohio, and grew up in the town of Stockport, Ohio. After graduating from Windsor High School in Stockport as class valedictorian, Virginia resided in Charleston, West Virginia; San Diego, California; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and lived the final 43 years of her life in her adopted hometown of Zachary, Louisiana. Virginia earned an undergraduate degree and a Master’s degree in education from LSU, was employed as an elementary school teacher with the East Baton Rouge School System, and served the community of Zachary for the final 20 years of her career as a kindergarten teacher at Zachary Elementary School. Her teaching, love, and influence touched the lives of many. After retirement, Virginia took great pride in the caring of her many grandchildren. In addition to being an avid reader, Virginia loved to travel, and visited many historical places of interest around the world through trips with close friends. Her unwavering Christian faith and deep love of her family carried her throughout her life. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Morris Calendine and her husband Robert of Belpre, Ohio; four sons and their spouses; Keith Allen Masterson and wife Connie; Kyle Morris Masterson and wife Lisa; David Patrick Masterson and wife Jennifer; Scott Michael Masterson and wife Cherie. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, her pride and joy: Eric Masterson, Craig Masterson, Jimmie Masterson, Ricky Schneider, Christopher Masterson, Jack Masterson, Camille Masterson, Savannah Masterson, and Scarlett Masterson. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerold “Jerry” Masterson; her parents, Dale and Cleo Morris; and sister Karen Elaine Morris. Virginia’s kind heart, warmth and wisdom will be missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to sincerely thank the caregivers who shared their skill and love with Virginia over the final months of her life. Visitation will be Tuesday September 12 at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary, with a funeral service to follow on Wednesday September 13 at First Baptist Church of Zachary. She will be interred next to her husband at Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary.
