Obituary for Woodrow L. Evans

Woodrow L. Evans, a resident of Zachary, LA, died on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at age of 94. He was a native of Bogalusa, LA and a retired maintenance supervisor at Crown Zellerbach Corporation Paper Mill located in St. Francisville, LA. Also was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II having served in the 1st Division, A Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment. He fought in the South Pacific on the islands of Guadalcanal, New Guinea, New Britain, and Peleliu earning 2 purple hearts. He finished out the war as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island S. C. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church, Zachary, LA on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 10 AM till service at 3 PM with Dr. Wayne Barnes and Dr. Brythel Brantly. Burial at Azalea Rest Cemetery, Zachary, LA. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Vernell “Nell” Magee Evans, daughters Barbara Baudouin and husband Buddy of Zachary, LA and Susan Fowler of St. Martinville, LA, daughter-in-law Sue Evans, brother, Leroy and wife Shirley Evans of Bogalusa, LA. Grandchildren Steve Baudouin, Scott and Lauren Baudouin, Stefaniand Corey Sullivan, Jeremy and Heather Evans, James and Trudy Peavy, Robert Peavy. Great-grandchildren, Landry, Ava and Cline Baudouin, McKenzie, Kate and Noah Sullivan, Harley, Taylor, Zane and Blaze Peavy, Bryce and Justin Thomas, Morgan Sparks, Savannah and Arianna McNeal-Rioux and Paige Boudreaux. Great-great-grandchildren Kingston, Karter, and Kamryn Peavy. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vada Evans, son Gerald “Jerry” Evans, son-in-law Jim Fowler, brothers Jack and Fred Burk, Vernon, Willard and Billy Evans; sisters, Ila Mae Floyd, Margie Reeves, Betty Jean Schillings and Juanita Wilson. Pallbearers will be Steve, Scott and Landry Baudouin, Corey Sullivan, Jeremy Evans and James Peavy. Honorary Pallbearers, Billy Lively, Gerald Creed, Bobby Burdette, Jim Gammel, Jack Brooks, Eddie Bass, and Dewey Mizell. A special thanks to Dr. Kemp Amacker, Dr. Charles Thompson, Clarity Hospice and sitter Wanda Gray. He attended First Baptist Church, Zachary, LA.
