Obituary for James Warren Winborn Jr.

James Warren Reagan Winborn Jr. “Jim”, died peacefully on July 12, 2017 at the Baton Rouge General Hospital at the age of 73. James was born on July 28, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri to parents James Winborn Sr. and Dixie Reagan. James was a 1961 graduate of Baker High School where he played football, basketball, and was active in 4H, the Biology Club, the school paper and played in the band for four years. In 1961, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and served for 27 years until 1988, within which he was deployed in Vietnam from December 1968 to November 1969, receiving numerous commendations such as the Purple Heart, the President’s Medal, meritorious service medal and Navy commendation. When he retired in 1988, he ran a business in Washington, DC for ten years. In 1996, he returned to Louisiana and was employed by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office from October 3, 1997 to October 2, 2009, serving under Sheriff Sid Geautreaux. His children and stepchildren remember James as a devoted father and stepfather. He had a gift of bringing laughter to his family and friends. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA from 6pm until 8pm, with a 7pm Rosary. Visitation will continue on Monday, July 17, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary from 9am until funeral Mass at 10:30am, conducted by Fr. M. Jeffery Bayhi. He will be interred in Louisiana National Cemetery on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11am. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Josefina Winborn; one daughter, Melissa Winborn of Manassas, VA; three step-daughters, Ma. Michaela DeLeon and husband JD Delarrazabal; Anna Katherina DeLeon and husband Alvin Tomlin; and Patricia Luisa DeLeon and husband Raymond Castro; one son, James W. Winborn III; two step-sons Victor Emmanuel DeLeon; and Marco Alejandro DeLeon and wife Ira Janice Tuazon; sister, Patricia Kostash; grandson Braxton McNinch; step-grandchildren: Vincent Miguel Delarrzabal; Angelo Clarence Tomlin; Adric Giordan Tomlin; Annaize Lorraine Tomlin; Sofia Nicole DeLeon; Colin Miguel Castro; Ashton Hugh Castro; and Benjamin DeLeon. He was preceded in death by his parents James W. Winborn Sr. and Dixie Reagan; and by brother-in-law Dennis Kostash.
