Obituary for John Odom "Johnny" LeTard

John Odom "Johnny" LeTard
"It is well with my soul.”

No truer words could be representative of one who loved and served his Lord, his church, his family, friends and community so deeply.
John Odom “Johnny” LeTard of Zachary, La. was born in Bastrop, La. on December 10, 1941. He went to be with his Lord on August 29, 2016. Johnny and his mother moved to Zachary, La. where she taught mathematics at Zachary High School. It was in Zachary that his mother met Johnny’s stepfather, Carl Bond, who owned the local Zachary Rexall pharmacy. Johnny, an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising cattle with his stepdad. Johnny graduated from Zachary High and went on to attend what was then called Northeast Louisiana State College (ULM) in Monroe where he followed in his stepdad’s footsteps and studied pharmacy. He married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Ayer who he celebrated a 56 year wedding anniversary with in April of this year. Johnny proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam War. Johnny and Audrey had three daughters, Dana Vicellio, married to Daren, Janet Babin, married to Bobby, and Amie Stagg, married to John. Johnny and Audrey have 9 grandchildren, D.L. Vicellio, Jr., Keith Watts and wife Maddie, Collin Stagg and wife Lindsay, Bond Babin, Rachel Vince and husband, Patrick, Anthony Vicellio, Bryce Babin, Odom Stagg, and Jamie Stagg. They have 3 great grandchildren, Shyenne and Gunner Vicellio and Hunter Watts. After graduating from pharmacy school, Johnny had a dream of owning his own pharmacy in his hometown of Zachary. In 1968 his dream became a reality and Medical Pharmacy opened its doors to the public. Another location across town, Medical Pharmacy West, followed in 2005. It was his honor and privilege to serve Zachary and the surrounding area with a compassionate heart for his many loyal customers. Johnny certainly was known as a pillar of the community and will always be remembered for his kindness and unique spirit of generosity. Johnny served on a number of boards through the years, including 24 years on the Lane Regional Medical Center Board where he served as Chairman of the Board for 12 of those years. He received numerous awards and achievements, but by far his greatest accomplishment and joy was in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Papa”, he treasured the time he spent with the grandchildren at his beloved Bush Hill Plantation in St. Francisville where they all enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Audrey loved taking all the family on ski trips to Colorado and baseball trips to watch the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros play. Johnny also took all the grandsons and son-in-laws on a number of out of state turkey hunting trips where a good time was always had by all. Johnny is survived by his wife, Audrey A. LeTard, brothers Ronnie LeTard and wife Pam, Bobby LeTard and wife Cathy, stepmother, Nancy LeTard, sisters in law, Judy Varnado and husband, Larry and Ann Allison and husband, Wayne. He is preceded in death by his father, John Milton LeTard, mother, Ruby Lee Odom Bond, stepfather, Carl Bond, and brother, Richard LeTard. Johnny was a long time deacon at First Baptist Church, Zachary. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church, Zachary on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 from 9 am until religious services at 12 pm followed by the graveside service at Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary. Ministers leading in the service will be Dr. Wayne Barnes, Rev. Stephen Byrd, Dr. Reggie Bridges, and Rev. Harold Babin. Pall bearers will be Johnny’s grandsons.
