Obituary for Jared Douglas Thompson

On August 17th, 2016 this community lost a shining star that brightened the lives of the many that were lucky to know him. Born July 25, 1989 and talented beyond measure, this amazing young man's loving nature and personality was a force to be reckoned with. Touching lives and always wanting to help others out, he was exceedingly selfless and kind. Jared enjoyed life and if he could make you laugh, then he was a happy man. As a small child he always looked up to his big brother Camron and protected his little sister Brianna. He graduated from Silliman Institute in Clinton, LA, where he was quoted as being a "social butterfly". Teachers and students gravitated toward him. During these years, Jared was a member of the Slaughter Volunteer Fire Department and worked at Paw Paw's Grocery in Slaughter, LA where customers adored him. He was that "friendly young man at the store" they said. He continued his education at BRCC in Baton Rouge, LA, where he acquired a Minor in Biology. He then went on to BRCC Nursing School for several years but in the end decided he wanted to work in IT. Jared loved all things dealing with technology and he pursued his love at ASC Academy in Liberty, MS working on the school computers which lead to him becoming a teacher. The students loved Mr. Jared and his fun teaching style and will forever be touched by his memory. Jared got his first guitar when he was 12 and by age 16 he was a skilled musician and singer. He would always draw a crowd when he played and his love for music never ceased. He is survived by his parents Kevin Scott Thompson and DeEddra Jackson Thompson, brother Camron Thompson, sister Brianna Smith, brother-in-law Christopher Smith, nephew Charles Douglas Smith, grandparents Ken and Marie Thompson. He is preceded in death by grandparents Douglas and Maxine Jackson. Services for Jared are as follows: Charlet Funeral Home, Zachary, LA : Sunday August 21 visitation 5-8 pm. Slaughter First Baptist, Slaughter, LA: Monday August 22 visitation 9-10 am, Services 10 am.
