Obituary for James Alonzo Jacocks III

James A. Jacocks III, 87, passed away on July 8, 2015 at his home. He was a faithful member of the Plains Presbyterian Church where he attended with his wife and five daughters. He was a local builder and draftsman and a lifelong resident of Zachary and the Plains community. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, where he served during World War II.
He was loved by his family and by the numerous Boy Scouts and Scouters he served with for many years. He was a dedicated Gideon and volunteer at the Baton Rouge Foodbank. He thrived on helping others and had a generous and compassionate heart for the less fortunate. What he enjoyed most about his gardening was the opportunity to share his fruits and vegetables with friends and neighbors.
James will be fondly remembered for the pies and cakes he baked and shared. Above all, James will be remembered as a loving father & grandfather filled with an incredible kindness and an optimistic outlook.

Although we would never have been ready to say goodbye, the Lord called him home, and we rejoice in the hope that our entire family will one day be together again.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucile Jacocks; his childhood sweetheart and wife of 40 years, Evelyn Taylor Jacocks; his second wife of 24 years, Frances Townsend Jacocks; his grandson Glynn “Chip” Cavin; step-grandchildren Laura and Cameron Richmond; his sister Mary Lou Jacocks Crifasi and his brother Kenny Jacocks.

He is survived by his five daughters: Ginger Jacocks of Cedar Point, NC; Marie Baker and her husband Don Baker of Zachary; Marjorie Moore and her husband Richard Moore of Zachary; Myrna Adams and her husband Jason Adams of the Plains; and Maggie Yancey and her husband Langston Yancey of Rayville, LA; his stepdaughter, Terri Richmond and her husband Randy Richmond of the Plains; his stepson, Hewitt Townsend of the Plains; his ten grandchildren: Heather Cavin Summers, Ashley Gremillion Coker, Mark Michael Gremillion, Shannon Adams Skena, Stacey Adams Reiser, Stephanie Adams, Katie Yancey Arabie, Erin Yancey Adkins, Taylor Yancey; his step grandson William Richmond; eight great-grandchildren; and his two brothers, Harold Jacocks and Tom Leak Jacocks.

Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 5:30pm until 8:00pm and then on Saturday, July 11 2015 at the Plains Presbyterian Church from 9:30am until funeral services at 11:00am, conducted by Rev. Bob Wojohn. Burial will be in the Plains Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Don Baker, Richard Moore, Jason Adams, Langston Yancey, Hewitt Townsend, and Mark Michael Gremillion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International, P O Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214—0800 or the Greater Baton Rouge Area Food Bank, P O Box 2996, Baton Rouge, LA 70821.
