Kowalczuk, Joseph “Joe”, 94, was born in Great Meadows, NJ and was a resident of Solitude, St. Francisville, LA and died on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at his home.
Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in St. Francisville on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm with a rosary at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the church from 10:00 am until mass at 11:00 am conducted by Fr. Cary Bani. Burial will follow at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery.
Joe is survived by his three daughters, Mary Joe Ware and husband Ted, Loretta K. Fourrier and Nancy Bailey and husband Van, all of St. Francisville, LA, and one son, George Kowalczuk and wife, Melinda of Katy, TX, 12 grandchildren, Dorothy Ware Sykes, Joseph Ware, Virginia Ware Bell, Carter Fourrier, Nathan Fourrier, Drew Fourrier, Anastasia Kowalczuk Bass, Wesley Kowalczuk, Trenton Kowalczuk, Gregory Bailey, Jane Bailey, Paul Bailey and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary “Sis” Beatty Kowalczuk, parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Kowalczuk, Sister and brother in law, Stella and Henry Sosnowski, and granddaughter, Suzy Ware Canoy.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Ware, Nathan Fourrier, Wesley Kowalczuk, Carter Fourrier, Drew Fourrier, Trenton Kowalczuk, Gregory Bailey and Paul Bailey.
He was a US Army veteran of WWII and served in the European Theater. He Fought in Bastogne at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star upon discharge from the Army. Joe received his BS and MS in Chemistry at LSU, where he worked for 30 years in Agricultural Chemistry. He and his wife, Sis, were charter members of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and since 1975 active members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. After moving to St. Francisville, Joe and Sis joined LA Soiree Club; and enjoyed getting together with their friends. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Council #7856 Knights of Columbus. He was involved with many other parish and social group services. His greatest passions in life were his family, dancing and gardening. He enjoyed harvesting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren the fresh vegetables in his garden which he tended until the last year of his life.
