Obituary for Earla Thompson Young
Earla Thompson Young, 96, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at St. James Place in Baton Rouge. She was a lifelong resident of Zachary and born in the Plains, the daughter of J. Scott and Mary Taylor Thompson. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Henry B. Young; sisters, Bessie "Thompie" Wiggers, who was of Fort Necessity, and Sara T. Row, who was of Baton Rouge; and brother, Frank Thompson, who was of Plains. She attended Zachary High School and Northwestern State University. She attended the Plains Presbyterian Church and in later years, Zachary United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, a substitute teacher for many years and volunteered with organizations for children in the Zachary area. Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, on Wednesday, Jan. 5, was from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting will resume at Zachary United Methodist Church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Greg Davis. Burial will be in Young Family Cemetery. She is survived by sons, Henry T. Young and wife Ellen, of Zachary, and David B. Young and wife Wilda, of Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, LaMae Y. Strange and husband Tommy, of Todd, N.C.; grandchildren, Todd Young and wife Tanda, of St. Francisville, Chris Young and wife, Nikki, of Zachary, Matthew Young, of New York City, Bess Y. Friday and husband Peter, of San Francisco, and Mike Strange, of Gainesville, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Ann Young, both of St. Francisville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Young Family Cemetery, 1370 Plains-Port Hudson Road, Zachary, LA 70791.
